Frequently asked questions on reclaiming bank and credit card charges

I have more than one account to claim against, how do I do this?

If you have more than one bank/credit card/PPI claim to make, simply fill out an application form for each account you would like us to investigate.  Visit www.alliedandgeneral.co.uk or call us on 0845 257 1508, for extra application forms.

My account is closed, can I still claim?

Yes, provided the bank charges were incurred within the last 6 years.

How far back can I claim for?

We can help you to claim back any bank/credit card charges/mis-sold PPI premiums within the last 6 years!

I no longer have my bank/credit card statements, can you still look into my claim?

Yes, we will request any information we need from your bank, so there is no need to send us anything.

Will my bank close my account?

We have heard of some instances of banks closing accounts after the account holder has tried to claim against them for unfair charges.  At Allied & General we have not encountered this problem.

How much can you claim back for me?

That all depends on the number of charges you have incurred and the amount of each charge.

How will you keep me updated on my claim?

Allied & General is the only bank claims management company that has a customer login function.  Once your account has been set up we will send you details of your Username & Password, once logged in, you can view your claim, the estimated value and the stage it is at- as well as being able to update your details.

Isn’t there a court case about bank claims?

Yes, there are ongoing legal proceedings between the Office of Fair Trading and some of the banks, which will determine whether or not bank charges are unfair.  All claims remain on hold at the banks end, until there is resolution at the courts.  This does not mean that you should delay your claim.  We can gather all the info we need from your bank to calculate your claim & submit it, if necessary.  The banks log any claims we send to them and they will deal with them as appropriate, immediately following the courts decision.  (The legal proceedings to do not affect business accounts or credit card claims).

How long will my claim take?

Under normal circumstances, claims usually take about 3 months from beginning to end.  Obviously, claims are suspended at the banks (for personal bank accounts only), until there is resolution at the Courts.  We can still submit your claim to the bank, in order for a speedy response, once the normal claims procedures have resumed.

What is the threshold amount for you to deal with my claim?

Allied & General does not have a minimum threshold at which we will investigate claims, we take on every case!

What are your fees?

Our fee is 18% (on all claims) of any money we recover, we will request the £10.00 statement request fee from you before we begin working on your claim- but this could be returned to you, as not all banks charge for this information.   No hidden extras– if we don’t get you some money back, we won’t charge you a penny!

How much will it cost me to start my claim?

Possibly nothing!  Although we request that you send us the £10 Subject Access Request Fee (made out to your account provider) before we begin working on your claim, some banks do not charge for the information and your payment could be returned to you.  Other than that we do not charge anything for dealing with your claim until a refund has been made!

Q. I don’t know my account number, can I still claim?

A. If you cannot locate the account number, we can write to your bank, asking for them to look you up on their database.  Simply fill out the application form in the usual way, leaving a blank space if necessary.
